What is Genealogy?

*ge·ne·al·o·gy noun \-jē\

: the study of family history

: the history of a particular family showing how the different members of the family are related to each other .

As a genealogist it is my job (and privilege) to research the lineage of a person's family. I begin by assessing what information the individual already knows (names, birth dates and places of parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, etc.) from there, I begin my reseach online (and/or with other resources). I research possible birth information for those who's information we don't already know. Census records; birth, marriage and death records as well as newspaper articles are often helpful hints. Sometimes, I am able to find a lot of information, and other times, there is very little available. But I truly enjoy doing it, and therefor am dedicated to my research.
